Let's try Ethiopian peanut butter tea today!
Have you ever heard of it? We could call it a very tasty drinking dessert, typical of Ethiopian cuisine (it is also served in restaurants), a peanut butter tea also known as Ocholoni Shai. How about trying to prepare it together?
The preparation is really simple, you will need tea and a good peanut butter (better if raw/organic, without too much added sugar otherwise the end result will be cloying).
As for tea, the most suitable option is green tea, but you could also try it with rooibos.
Prepare your tea, as soon as the right infusion time is up, add a generous spoonful of peanut butter into each cup, gradually add the tea and stir to mix everything together.
Before enjoying, you can add your favourite sweetener to your butter tea.
If you ‘want to overdo it’, add a dollop of cream and a dusting of cocoa to your cup.
Cinnamon is great if you also want to give the drink a spicy touch.
Best enjoyed hot, it is simply perfect for cold days. Enjoy it on its own or as a tasty snack, perhaps accompanied by pastries or a fragrant slice of banana bread.
If you like it, you can try a variation of the original recipe and add milk, either cow's milk or vegetable milk.
