A cinnamon-flavoured New Year's Eve
Have you ever heard of the cinnamon blowing ritual? Spices are often linked to rituals and superstitions, often due to their high value in past centuries, just think of the rituals and superstitions related to salt in our country. Perhaps because cinnamon is one of our favourite spices, this ritual intrigued us.
There is no certainty about its origins, which some trace back to China, others to Egypt, but as we all know, this intensely scented spice has always played an important role in traditional practices in many different countries and cultures. According to the belief behind this practice, blowing a little ground cinnamon to the outside of the house brings prosperity, abundance and good luck. The steps to follow are few and very simple, you pour a little cinnamon powder into the hollow of your hand, stand on the doorstep, looking outwards and blow the cinnamon while repeating an auspicious phrase: ‘When this cinnamon blows, prosperity will enter here.
When this cinnamon blows, abundance will come to stay. When this cinnamon blows, abundance here will live!’. The choice of day is not random, the perfect date is the first day of the month, as if to mark a new beginning. And what better date than the first day of the new year. As New Year's Day is approaching, we thought it would be nice to share with you this trivia about one of the most used and loved spices during the holidays. And we take this opportunity to wish all our customers a Happy New Year.
