We are all quite familiar with karkadè, the pleasant infusion made from hibiscus flowers, while the use of the powder made from the inflorescences in cooking or for skin and hair care is ‘less famous’.
We have devoted ample space to the properties of hibiscus flowers in our karkadé factsheet. Today we would like to focus on alternative uses of hibiscus flowers, which you can also find in our shop in a dehydrated version (which you can grind at home).
Uses of hibiscus powder in the kitchen
Hibiscus flowers are one of the edible parts of the plant and can be used to prepare sauces, creams or jams in addition to infusion.
Hibiscus powder can be used to flavour salt (you can find it ready-made in our online shop), to add a special touch of taste and flavour to risottos and frostings for desserts, meat and roast fish.
Using hibiscus powder for skin and hair wellness
With ground hibiscus flower powder, you can prepare masks and compresses inspired by the Ayurvedic tradition, for face and hair, to treat yourself to a moment of home-made wellness and relaxation.
Mixed with a little lukewarm water, it can be used to prepare a face mask (to be left on for 5-8 minutes), or a hair pack.
Ideal for those who want shiny hair with red and violet highlights, depending on your colour (in this case you will need about 220 ml per 100 g of hibiscus powder).
